On 9 March, Art of Remembrance will make its public debut in Nijmegen, marking the first European presentation of this transnational project at the intersection of contemporary art and WWII remembrance.
The exhibition will first open its doors to participants of the LRE Forum 2026, organised by the LRE Foundation. The public opening will follow on 12 March, after the lecture by Keith Lowe.
Rather than offering a formal programme or guided narrative, the exhibition invites visitors to encounter the works directly — exploring the space at their own pace, letting meaning emerge gradually. Works by Gail Ritchie, Juhana Moisander, Rebekka Bauer, and Raphaël Dallaporta will be on view, each developed through residencies at historic remembrance sites in France, Poland, Italy, and Belgium.
The exhibition does not aim to retell the history of the Second World War. Instead, it proposes a different kind of engagement – through material, sound, and spatial composition – asking questions rather than providing answers, and exploring how the memory of this history can be transmitted now that the voices of survivors are fading.
From Nijmegen, the exhibition will continue to travel to venues across Europe, evolving with each new context it enters.
Refreshment will be offered. Free entry. All are welcome.
