Throughout 2025, German artist Rebekka Bauer undertook a residency in Paraloup, the historic mountain village in Cuneo, Italy, where Italian partisans once fought for freedom during the Nazi-Fascist occupation. Her work focuses on exploring the lives of women who testified to resistance, combining archival research, site visits, and community engagement.
The residency included two key public events. On 25 July 2025, in the MUDRI Museum of Rittana, Bauer shared her first impressions of Paraloup and her ongoing research with the local community. Through a presentation of her portfolio and residency activities—exploring historical sites, visiting abandoned villages, and studying archival documents—she introduced her creative process to 40 attendees, including residents, cultural operators, and press representatives. The event also included a museum visit, traditional music, and an aperitif, marking the start of her artistic engagement with the community.
The second event, held on 7 November 2025 at the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti in Turin, presented the outcomes of the residency’s second phase, focused on archival study and artistic research on women in the resistance. Bauer shared her work with 50 art students and young people, illustrating her research process and artistic language. The session included open dialogue with participants and highlighted the history of Paraloup, inspiring the next generation to engage with art and memory.
These events offered Bauer the opportunity to connect with local communities, historians, and students, while giving audiences a unique insight into the Art of Remembrance residency process. They also built anticipation for the final exhibition, which will open its doors in March 2026 in the Netherlands and travel to Turin to displayed in April 2026, bringing together the works created during the residency.
