Art of Remembrance: Artist Rebekka Bauer Begins Residency at Paraloup

We’re excited to share that the Art of Remembrance residency with German artist Rebekka Bauer has officially begun in Paraloup, Italy.

From 1 July, Rebekka is spending several weeks in this historic Alpine village, once home to the “Italia Libera” partisan group that fought against Nazi-Fascist occupation. Her residency spans eight weeks over two phases: the first, from 1 to 26 July in Paraloup and Cuneo, is dedicated to archival research and exchanges with the local community; the second, in October, will focus on producing the final work and leading educational workshops and initiatives for young people. Her artistic practice and research focuses on women’s stories from the region’s Resistance history, including Lidia Rolfi Beccaria, Caterina Brunetto of Rittana, and Adriana Filippi of Boves, whose actions had a lasting impact on Italian history.

During the first weeks of her residency, Rebekka will delve into the Museo dei Racconti in Paraloup, study the Nuto Revelli Archive, and visit key memory sites such as the museum dedicated to Adriana Filippi in Boves and MEMO4345 in Borgo San Dalmazzo. She will also spend time at Casa col Forno in Rorà (Val Pellice), another Alpine space. In October she will meet the artists of the Livingroom project by Ar.tur, who have also explored the valleys of Cuneo – and will lead workshops with young people and students.

A public presentation of Rebekka Bauer and her residency will be held on Friday 25 July 2025 at 18:00 at the newly renovated Cultural and Artistic Centre in Rittana.
